feather painting.

like i've mentioned before, i am moving into a new apartment soon; tomorrow actually! i've come up with a color scheme and decor and decided i needed some artwork for above my bed. i went to hobby lobby the other day and bought a two pack of canvas boards and black acrylic paint. i have an obsession with feathers and knew i wanted that to be the painting. so here it is!

peanut butter oatmeal cookies

today was a rainy and kind of chilly day, so i decided to stay in and bake some cookies before work. i didn't want to go out and buy ingredients, so i worked with what i had and came up with delicious peanut butter oatmeal cookies.

ingredients:
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup rolled oats (regular or quick-cooking)
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup butter, room temperature
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/3 cup peanut butter (crunchy or regular)

preheat oven to 350 degrees. line baking sheet with parchment paper. in medium bowl, whisk together flour, oats, baking soda and salt. in a large bowl, cream together butter and sugars. beat in egg and vanilla until smooth, then beat in peanut butter. blend in the flour mixture until the dough comes together.

drop dough in 1-inch balls on the parchment paper. bake in oven for 11-13 minutes.

allow to cool by transferring to a wire rack. enjoy!

my favorite products

most of these products below are used on a daily basis. i don't spend a lot of money on expensive hair and skin products because the kind that i use work just fine for me and are a fraction of the cost.

the product on the left is by john frieda and it is called luxurious volume. it is a lightweight spray dry shampoo that i use to refresh the volume in my hair throughout the day. you simply spray it on your roots and rub in gently with your fingers to bring back the bounce. i use this tresemme hairspray pretty much every day when i curl my hair. it's a very light aerosol spray that holds the curls throughout the day. it is also a good spray to tame fly aways because it is so light and does not make hair greasy. it is sold pretty much anywhere and is less than $10. the product on the right is also by john frieda and it is called heat defeat. i spray this on my damp hair every day before blow drying and curling. it doesn't make my hair greasy or tangly and it does a good job of protecting my hair from any heat damage.

this is one of my favorite facial cleansers to use. sometimes, i hate to admit, i sleep with my makeup on overnight if i'm staying at my boyfriend's or am too lazy to wash my face. this scrub gives me a revitalized feeling to my skin when i wake up the next morning and use it. it has won many awards for being the best scrub and has been mentioned many times in allure magazine.

now i may be the pickiest person ever when it comes to shampoos and conditioners. i have very thin hair and often hate the way my hair looks with certain hair cleaning products. however, i decided to give suave professionals a try. i use the invigorating clean shampoo and conditioner with 100% real rosemary and mint. the smells is amazing and i like the way my hair feels when using the products. it gives me the results i need at only about $4 per bottle.

new shoes

i went on a huge and unnecessary shopping trip this past weekend. i am happy because i purchased a lot of things that i know i can wear on many different occasions. like these adorable little tan suede heels. they were only $22 at forever 21. they're the perfect height and look great with a pair of skinny jeans.

so cute!

jewelry box

i am moving into a new apartment in july and i really want to decorate my room in a cute and chic way. i found an old unused jewelry box in my room at my parent's house and decided that it needed a little updating.

first, i took the jewelry box apart as much as i could. i unscrewed the hinges to the doors and took the glass panels out to make painting easier. i then sanded the wood, going with the grain to prevent any scratches, then wiped the dust off with a paper towel. next, i used a black acrylic paint and did two coats on the entire box and the drawers, which slid out. i did not paint the sections of the box that would not be visible when the doors were reattached and closed so it wouldn't be such a challenge to paint the inside. there's the finished product, ready to be used in my new room!
